About Dr. Peter

peter

He was a child who never grew up.  He was the best part of a human being – the innocent part that can see things with Wonder.  He was beautiful, like a child dancing around free-form because of joy, because the world is music to dance to, because other people are delights to laugh with and play with.  And he had in him that wonderful vision that made him see in others the Beauty Part, the Good Part, the Happy Part.

Dr. Peter Montminy is a consulting child psychologist, family wellness coach, and father of four who has been passionate about enhancing the emotional well-being of children and their families for the past 20 years. He is excited about introducing his innovative KidStep Coaching Programs to the world, as well as his upcoming book “Timechoicing for Busy Parents – How to Mindfully Manage Your Time, Stress, and Kids.”

As the founding director of MidStep Centers for Child Development, Dr. Montminy has worked collaboratively with parents, teachers, counselors, and community leaders to ensure that struggling youth have the greatest possible chance for success in life. He believes that all children have the ability to move from surviving to thriving on their journey towards adulthood, if they have the proper guidance and support along the way.

Dr. Montminy has been highly regarded for his therapeutic work with acting-out children and adolescents struggling with executive functioning (with or without such labels as ADHD, ASD, ODD, OCD, or LD), for his solutions-focused coaching that fosters personal resiliency, and for his dynamic parenting workshops that are filled with love, laughter, and learning.

An alumnus of Dartmouth College, Dr. Montminy earned his graduate degrees in child clinical psychology at Penn State University and completed his internship year at Yale Medical School’s prestigious Child Study Center. He spent eight years as the Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Penn State’s Psychological Clinic, before founding MidStep in 1996. As an adjunct faculty member, he continues to teach courses and supervise graduate students at Penn State University.

Meanwhile, Peter’s ultimate training – involving both great pride and humility – comes from raising his four children with his wife Mary in the woods of central Pennsylvania. An avid nature lover, he enjoys nothing better than time spent hiking, camping, or skiing in the mountains with family and friends. And he is eternally grateful for a loving family, both past and present, whose ongoing gifts never cease to amaze.
